Boquete

The town of Boquete is nestled in a valley in the Chiriqui mountains at 1,100m. About 45 minutes from David, the provincial capital, and served by regular buses, Boquete is a beautiful little town set within lush, green countryside full of flowers and picturesque streams and rivers. There is a wide range of accommodation available to suit all budgets, from hostels to very comfortable hotels set in lovely gardens. There are several restaurants in town providing a variety of cuisines from traditional Panamanian to Chinese, Lebanese and Mexican. There are also several bars, and supermarkets as well as small specialist food shops, bookshops and boutique shops selling local crafts and artefacts.

There are a great many activities to take part in around Boquete and whether you want some action and adventure, or peace and tranquillity, there's something for you.

Walking and hiking

There are practically endless walks and hikes to do around Boquete. These include the famous Quetzal’s trail, and hikes up Volcan Baru, Panama’s tallest point (3,450m)- on a good day, you can see both the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. There are several tour guides who can guide you on these trails if desired.

White Water Rafting

Chiriqui is widely renowned as one of the best locations for white water rafting in Central America. With class 2, 3, 4 and 5 rapids and a course of up to 50km, it’s a fantastic way to see otherwise inaccessible and beautiful scenery and a lot of fun! There are several companies that offer white water rafting trips from Boquete. You get picked up in town, then driven an hour or so to the start point. Rainforest Canopy Tours

Zip lining through the cloud rainforest of Palo Alto is something not to be missed. 3km of zip lines connected by about 10 tree top platforms provide amazing views and an exhilarating experience. Boquete Tree Trek take groups of up to about 15 people several times a day.

Thermal Hot Springs

Just outside Boquete, the hot springs at Caldera are a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. You can catch a bus from Boquete town centre and then walk down to the springs (about half an hour walk), drive or take a tour with a tour guide. There are several hot baths right next to the Chiriqui River, which make a perfect cooling off spot.

Quad Biking

Quad bikes can be hired from the town centre. Guides accompany you and take you on tracks and roads around the area. For groups of up to 10.

Horse-riding and cycling

Horse-riding tours can be taken around Boquete providing some wonderful views while on the trek. Bikes can be hired from Mirador Adventures and at Los Establos Plaza. It's a great way to see the area for those wanting a bit of a workout, it can be very tiring due to the mountainous terrain!

Coffee tours

Boquete is surrounded by coffee plantations which produce some of the finest coffee of Central America, indeed the world. Panama's coffee has been considered to be within the top 10 in the world for many years. Tours around the plantations can easily be arranged.
